FIRE The Family-Nick French.jpeg

Hi, I’m Nick French.

Over the past 2 years, I’ve helped tens of thousands of families regain control over their finances.

My readers know me as a no-fluff, no-nonsense, give it to you straight kind of guy. In the past 10-years, my wife and I have:

  • Had 3 kids (one at 21, one at 25, and one at 27)

  • Earned 5 degrees combined with zero student loan debt (including two Masters degrees)

  • Achieved a household net worth of $150k before the age of 30

  • Put us on track to be financially independent before the age of 40

Let me ask you a question:

Have you ever felt like everyone online (and offline) is saying the same thing?

If you read a lot of blogs, listen to a lot of podcasts, and watch a lot of educational YouTube channels like I do, I’m sure you’ve noticed this echo-chamber of rehashed ideas…

The advice goes something like this:

“Spend less money, stop buying coffee, eat rice and beans forever, pay cash for your house!”

You get the idea.

It’s the same truisms, repeated again and again – at best with a fresh coat of paint.

And that’s all well and good…

…until you start implementing.

And then where does that advice get you?

If you want financial encouragement that challenges conventional wisdom, check out our free newsletter.

Is rarely a straight line.

In fact, it usually means taking a very indirect, unconventional approach.

Because the beaten path is full and if you want to stand out from the crowd, you need to do things other people aren’t doing.

I’m not going to sugar coat it – most people usually aren’t doing these things because they’re harder.

….but if you’re willing to do the work, I truly believe you will succeed where others fail.

The quickest way is to read my 229 page, no-fluff book.

Understand that your household is like a business.

It earns income, has expenses, and stakeholders (you)

So here’s tip #1.

Understand how money flows through your household

It’s not as simple as spending less. It’s a combination of earning, saving, and investing

Don’t recreate the wheel; learn from other people’s successes (and more importantly: their failures).

A simple way to start?

I will show you what’s working RIGHT NOW when it comes to increasing your income, decreasing your expenses, and investing for the future.

And these aren’t theoretical insights.

The best part:

I keep the very best stuff exclusive to my free newsletter.

In 2010, I got married and joined the United States Air Force. Kayla and I were 19.

In early 2012, we had our first baby, and I left 4 months later for a 5-month deployment.

I separated from service in 2015, returned to college, moved my young family in with my parents while working at Barnes & Noble.

From day one, I have been dedicated to financially supporting my family at all costs and giving them a great life.

Fast forward to the present, I earned a Master of Business Administration while working full time in software sales and Kayla completed her Masters of Curriculum and Instruction. Neither of us incurring student loan debt.

In June of 2020, we moved our family across the country for new opportunities, warmer weather, and to take advantage of geoarbitrage.

Our life has been a series of financial, educational, and professional decisions that have put us on an accelerated path to financial independence. All while raising 3 kids.

Through necessity, and spending many years being “broke” we have attained expert level control over our finances and want to share everything we’ve learned with you.

It wasn’t until 2018 that I discovered the financial independence retire early (FIRE) movement. For me, it was a community that shared a similar dissatisfaction with the story we had been told as kids. Go to college, get an average salary, do your time, retire in your 60’s.

Does that sound familiar?

The truth is, that life isn’t predestined for you. In fact, you can be in full control of how the next 10, 20, 30+ years will play out in your life.

Most people would disagree with me, that’s because they’ve settled for the story. “They’ve lost their dinosaur” (Stepbrothers Movie).

The reason people settle for a life they didn’t choose is that it’s the path of least resistance. It’s easy. It’s safe.

If you want to read our full story, it’s in my book: FIRE The Family: The Ultimate Guide to Achieving Financial Independence With a Family.

I’m not going to lie to you, choosing to pursue financial independence is not easy, but it’s relatively safe. What’s unsafe is droning away at a job you hate, making a below-average income, waiting for a financial disaster to strike.

I’m a long-time student of value investing and it’s often perceived that a growth stock is a riskier investment than the alternatives. The truth is, investing in a company with strong growth prospects significantly decreases your risk of loss of capital. Your household is no different.

If your household net worth is growing, you are better protected against financial hardships. Hands down. You can’t change my mind.

How do you grow your household net worth?

When you grow your household income, reduce your expenses you generate free cash flow (FCF). This FCF can then be allocated to emergency savings, investments, and unforeseen expenses.

You can only decrease your expenses so much, but you can increase your income infinitely.

It’s all in the book. You can purchase your copy here.

“I came to Fire The Family after frustration with others in the FIRE movement whose story didn't match mine. This book showed me how even with a lower income and a family, that financial independence is possible when you are diligent...” – WriterFisher

“This book does a good job of laying the groundwork for someone new to the FIRE concept…” - MSCummings

During my years of active duty military service, I’ve learned no more important lesson than this: people need you to instigate.

Every team is waiting for someone to take point, to lead, to be the one to rally the troops.

Well, your family is looking for you to take point, to lead, and to protect and provide for them.

Your opportunity is to be that leader.

I’m here to help show you how.

When you sign up for my free newsletter, you join me and the growing army of financial independence seekers, taking the lead, fighting, and winning the inner battle against our own worst enemy. Ourselves.

It’s not for everyone…

But it could be for you.

I hope to see you at the front of the pack. Leading the way!
